Pool Play (1-1)
Game 1: Thunder 10, Spotsy Havoc 0 (4 innings) After scoring 2 in the 1st and none in the 2nd the Thunder exploded for 7 runs in the 3rd inning — all with 2 outs. Courtney D led the hit parade off with a double, Shannon A, Kelsie B, Julie P, and Brianna J all got hits to put the Thunder up 9-0 — Courtney D and Ashley B singles led to another run in the 4th to seal the win. Kelsie B had strike-outs for 10 of the 12 outs in the game.
Game 2: Richmond Storm 5, Thunder 3 (6 innings) In a back-n-forth game, the Storm were able to score 2 in the top of the 5th to break a 3-3 tie and eventually earn the win. Shannon A (3 for 3, 3 RBI) and Courtney D (2 for 3, RS) paced the Thunder bats. On the mound, Shannon A and Kelsie B split duties—each pitching 3 innings. Combined the duo struck out 7 and allowed only 5 hits. |

Gold Bracket—Quarter-final... Game 4: Thunder 0, Diamond Heat 1 (7 innings) In a battle of outstanding pitchers (Kelsie B for the Thunder) — the game was decided by a single run, scored in the 3rd inning by the Heat. The Thunder was held to only 2 hits (Lindsey N, Kelsie B), however had runners on base in 4 of the 7 innings, including runners in scoring position in 2 innings. The Heat advanced to finals where they lost to the VA Skyliners.

Thunder Snippets: · Thunder had double plays in 2 games — in the 1st pool play game Traci S snagged a pop up at first base and then beat the runner back to the bag for the final out of the game...in the final pool-play game, Shannon A fielded a bunt popup to pitcher who threw to Lindsey N covering 1st to double up the runner… · In game 3, Courtney D nailed the speedy lead-off hitter for the Heat trying to steal 2nd with 2 outs... · Kelsie B had an incredible 20 STRIKEOUTS in only 14 innings pitched! This included 7 in-a-row against the Rush as part of striking out 9 of the first 10 batters to come to the plate… · Shannon A (along with Courtney) was also on fire with the bat — batting 0.444 with 5 RBI for the tournament... |
