Quick Game Recaps:
Pool Play (3-1)
Game 1: Thunder 2, Rampage 6 (7 innings) With the scored tied 2-2 in the 6th, the Rampage scored 4 unearned runs to get the win. Lindsey N, Courtney D, and Lindsay W each had hits in the game, while pitchers Shannon A and Kelsie B only allowed 3 hits.
Game 2: Thunder 8, Manassas Blaze 3 (6 innings) Courtney D, Shannon A, and Megan I each had a single and double to lead the Thunder offense, while Kelsie B kept the Blaze bats at-bay.
Game 3: Thunder 4, Richmond Freeze 0 (7 innings) Shannon A pitched a no-hitter and struck out 12 to earn the win! Lindsay W and Taylor S each had 2 hits for the Thunder.
Game 4: Thunder 4, Richmond Rundown 0 (5 innings) The Thunder pounded out 11 hits, led by Shannon A who went 3 for 3 with 2 RS and Kelsie B who was 2 for 3. On the rubber, Kelsie B struck out 8 and only allowed 2 hits.

Winner’s Bracket 1st Round... Game 5: Thunder 7, Fairfax Firebirds 3 (7 innings) The Thunder scored 2 each in the 2nd and 3rd innings and another run in the 4th and 5th innings to propel the team to the win. Eight (8) Thunder batters had hits in the game with Shawna K and Ashley B getting 2 each.
Winner’s Bracket 2nd Round... Game 6: Thunder 3, So. Maryland Shockers 0 (7 innings) Behind the solid pitching of Kelsie B, the Thunder advanced in the winner’s bracket with a 7-inning shutout. Taylor S got 3 of Thunder’s 8 hits including an RBI and run-scored.
Winner’s Bracket 3rd Round... Game 7: Thunder 1, Rampage 2 (7 innings) In a battle of 2 top teams in the winner’s bracket, the Thunder came up just short. Shannon A allowed only 3 hits in the game, while the Thunder had 9 hits, but were only able to plate 1-run. In the final play of the game in the top of the 7th, with a runner (Brianna J) on 2nd base, Courtney D rocketed a ball to right field with 2 outs, but the Thunder were on the wrong end of a close play at the plate that would have tied the game at 2.
Loser’s Bracket Final... Game 8: Thunder 3, Manassas Blaze 0 (7 innings) With a chance to advance to the Championship game, the Thunder played perhaps their best game of the tournament. A scoreless game through 3 innings, the Thunder broke on top in the 4th 1-0 and then scored 2 more in the 6th behind consecutive hits by Taylor S, Lindsey N, Courtney D (2B), Shannon A, and Shawna K. Kelsie B pitched a 4 hit shutout, striking out 6 with only 1 walk.
Championship Game #1... Game 9: Thunder 1, Rampage 4 (7 innings) The 3rd time wasn’t a charm against the Rampage. In a hard fought game with great defensive plays by both teams, the Rampage were able to break open a 1-1 game in the 6th inning with 3 runs to take the win. The Thunder had runners on in all but 2 innings and out-hit the Rampage 8 to 7. Shawna K led the Thunder hitters, going 2 for 3 with a triple and run-scored. |

In Richmond, during an early August weekend, the Thunder Blue battled the heat and quality opponents in the SoftballNation 2009 Nationals. Playing 9 games in 3 days, the Thunder Blue won 6 and advanced to the Championship game against the Rampage. The Rampage broke open a 1-1 game in the 6th with 3 runs to get the win.
