2005 Recap

Thunder RED in a Classic 9-inning Battle!

Thunder RED, playing in the same tournament in the 14U bracket, showed why they are a team to be respected and one of the best teams around.  After going 2-1 on Saturday, with wins against the Virginia Rowdies and the Richmond Crush, the Thunder had an early 8:00 a.m. game against the Northern Neck Rage.  The Thunder girls had no problem with the early start as they rolled to a 9-1 win.
The win set-up a game against an exceptional Yorktown Revolution team.  The Revolution, in going undefeated up the that point in the tournament, had scored 32 runs while giving up ZERO!  The Thunder team was not intimidated.  After going 7-innings of scoreless ball, the international tie-breaker rule was invoked.  Neither team scored in the 8th.  In the top of the 9th, the Thunder was able to plate 1-run to take a 1-0 lead.  However, the Revolution were able to put up 2 in the bottom of the inning for the win.
The Thunder RED manager and coaches (and supporters) were extremely proud of the effort and the team should be proud of themselves for not only this game but the entire tournament!

On May 27 and 28, Hanover Thunder Red participated in the Memorial Day Shootout held at RF&P Park in Glen Allen Virginia.  Thunder Red, entered the tournament in the 14U division, playing up for the first time.

On Saturday, May 27, Thunder was the winner of two games, defeating the Wildkatz and the Glen Allen Blitz by scores of 10-5 and 10-3 respectively.  However, the third game of the day was played against the Virginia Flames and Thunder was defeated by a score of 7-0.

Sunday, Thunder played a close game against the Williamsburg Starz and came out on top by a score of 5-3.  With this win Thunder went on to compete in the Gold Division playoff game, once again coming head to head with the Virginia Flames.  Unfortunately, Thunder was unable to pull it together and lost by a score of 10-0.  They were presented with the runner-up trophy in the 14U division.

Although Thunder Red was outscored by their opponents 28 to 25 they played a good tournament, gaining experience and earning a pat on the back for their hard work and dedication.

Congratulations to all of the girls who played this weekend and a special thanks to the Tornado girls that came and helped us out.
