2005 Recap

Thunder Blue Wins Back-to-Back Tournaments!

Thunder Blue went 6-0 in the Powhatan Courthouse Classic tournament over the September 30th weekend to take 1st place in their second straight tournament.  The Thunder went 4-0 on Saturday with a couple of close wins against the Extreme Fury and Dixie Chicks.  In the semi-final on Sunday, the Thunder hung-on for a 3-2 decision over the Riptides.  In the Championship game, the Thunder "unleashed" their bats to cruise to a 14-2 win...

Thunder Unleashed!

The Thunder unleashed their bats in the Powhatan Courthouse Classic and cruised to their 2nd tournament win in a row.  Solid pitching, fielding, and thunderous bats all contributed to the success!  On Saturday, the Thunder got a solid pitching effort from Sarah B (allowing only 1 hit) and 2-hits (of 5 total) by Taylor D to earn the 5-2 win against the Extreme Fury.  In the 2nd game of pool play, the Thunder scored 6 runs in the first 2-innings on 6 hits (including 3 extra-base hits) and held on for a 6-4 win.  Courtney D pitched 5+ strong innings in the win.  Against the Riptides, the Thunder cruised to a 9-1 win.  In the final game of the day on Saturday, the Thunder scored 4 in the first and 8 in the third for the slaughter-rule win.
In the semi-finals on Sunday, the Riptides came out strong with 3 consecutive hits (including 2 doubles) to jump to a 2-0 lead.  The Thunder answered in the bottom of the 2nd with 2 runs to tie it 2-2.  After 3 scoreless innings (strong defensive play by both teams) the Thunder scored on a bases loaded walk to Madison C for the win.  In the final, the Thunder unleashed 15 hits in the first 3-innings to roll to a 14-2 victory!
