2005 Recap

Hanover Mudders Finish Strong in Rain Shortened Tournament

Dirty Dozen Tournament Results

At RFP Park in Glen Allen, Hanover Thunder – Blue finished 2nd in the Silver bracket by winning all 3 games on Sunday.  Rain kept the Thunder from a rematch for the Silver crown against the Richmond Heat.
For the tournament, Thunder Blue went 4-2 with 2 shut-outs and no losses on Sunday.  Overall, the Thunder outscored their opponents 38-25 for the weekend.  Thunder Blue should be proud of the effort (and results) from the weekend!

Game Summaries and Tournament Stats

Quick Quips:

bulletOne of the Thunder Coaches (name withheld to protect the innocent) was disappointed to find no Camp Kenny on Saturday as he tried to stomach a stale ham and cheese sandwich on high fiber (50g+) flax seed (tasted like wood chips) wheat bread for lunch...
bulletBrianna J gets the "Courage Award" for returning Saturday to support her team after getting her eye stitched up and returning to play and being a key contributor in Sunday's 3-game winning streak...
bulletThanks to Kelly H and Taylor D for their contributions over the weekend -- along with overall outstanding play they were an important part of the team chemistry that contributed to the weekend success...
bulletCoach Mark wanted to apologize for exposing everyone to his "white sticks" (otherwise known as his sun-starved legs) on Saturday -- thank goodness for the chill Sunday which required him to put on sweatpants...
bulletOn a related front - Coach Jim, known for his keen fashion sense, needed a little belt/pants adjustment in response to crowd chants of "Jimmy the Geek"...
bulletMegan D kept team spirits high throughout weekend - her enthusiasm and spirit kept smiles all around...
bulletJust a quick note to Thunder siblings, something to think about (MC)..."Life's all about choices..."
bulletA few soggy, tired souls ventured to Anna's for a brief but satisfying post-tournament meal on Sunday...

Individual Highlights:

bulletCourtney D was strong as usual behind the plate and batted 0.375 for the tournament scoring 5 runs along with 3 RBIs.
bulletLynnse C was nearly flawless in the field and rocketed a clutch double in the 8th inning of the "rain" game" against the Fury.
bulletLindsey N recorded a put-out from right field and helped lead the bats with 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
bulletKelly H once again showed her stamina and resilience pitching in the rain/wind/mud on Sunday -- she went 3-0 on the mound, striking out 11 and only allowing 3 runs in 9 innings.
bulletShawna K scored 4 runs in the tournament and earned "gold glove" praise for her play in the field.
bulletLindsay W had 4 RBIs and scored 5 runs along with playing stellar defense at first base.
bulletMadison C was 1 hit away from a tournament cycle getting a single, double and a triple -- she was 2-2 in the final game with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
bulletTaylor D led the team in hitting batting 0.429 for the weekend which included 3 doubles and 6 RBIs.
bulletAshley B was 2 for 4 in the hard-fought win over the Fury on Sunday -- she recorded a key putout in the bottom of the last inning of the same game.
bulletBrianna J recovered well from her injury to go 3-8 (0.375) on Sunday -- she also (like Ashley) caught a high fly ball in the bottom of the inning in the Fury game to help seal the win.
bulletSavannah A scored 4 runs and had 2 RBIs for the tournament -- she scored a key run in the top of the 8th of the Fury game on Sunday
